Three held with Rs 56 lakh in Ambassa

Agartala, June 01: In a significant development, the Tripura Police have successfully apprehended three individuals and seized cash amounting to Rs 56 lakh in the form of Rs 2000 notes in Ambassa at Dhalai district.

Speaking on the issues, Dhalai district superintendent of Police Avinash Rai said that they have arrested the trio based on secret information.

“Based on tip-off, police were checking vehicles on Assam-Agartala National Highway. While checking the vehicle, the police detained a vehicle suspiciously with the bearing number UP-64 AJ-4187.  There were three people from outside the state in the car. After searching the vehicle thoroughly, the police found a secret cabinet. When we questioned about this, they said that there is cash in the chamber. The vehicle was immediately taken to Ambassa police station”, said the SP.

After bringing in the police station, the police opened it before the magistrate and seized Rs 56 lakh of Rs 2000 notes.

The SP further said, “The three persons who are residents of the outside of the state in the car have been arrested. After their initial interrogation, it was found that they are running jewelry shops in Agartala and Uttar Pradesh. Currently, they have come to the state to visit. At the time of arrival, they brought Rs 56 lakhs of Rs 2000 notes. This money is brought to change”.
