Agartala, June 13, 2023: Agartala Municipal Corporation’s Mayor Dipak Majumder on Tuesday that the Corporation will began drive to make the Agartala city drug-free and free from traffic jams by removing illegal encroachments of footpaths and parking on the roads of the capital city from June 25 onwards.
Majumder on Tuesday chaired a crucial meeting with the councilors of the corporation at its conference hall here. He said that the vendors have to close their shops by 11 PM at night and can open their shops again at 10 AM on the next day. He said that the businessmen in the city are doing business with the vendors again by placing chairs and tables. It is causing traffic jam. Therefore, a decision will be taken after talking to the District Magistrate, West District Superintendent of Police and Traffic Police Superintendent. Also, the corporation will not allow these shops to remain open after 11 pm so that there is no drunkenness in the city after 11 pm.
The work of TUEP also got importance in the meeting of this day. The Mayor inquired from the corporates whether the workers were getting proper work and whether they were getting wages. Inquiries are made as to whether developmental work is being done properly. Besides, what will be done in the next day is discussed.
Apart from this, Mayor Deepak Majumdar said that there has been a discussion about getting houses quickly to those who have not yet got houses through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He also said that for the purpose of keeping Agartala city beautiful and free from traffic jams, a survey has also been taken in Battala market. He also said that irregularities were going on in Battala Super Market for a long time. Rent is not being paid correctly. Plans have already been taken to demolish the supermarket and build 12 to 14 floors. A file has been sent to the government for this. However, it has not yet been approved. If the government approves, then the work will be started soon.
Many youths think that there will be employment. He also said that strict action will be taken against the arrears of other markets including super markets in Agartala city.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, all corporators and additional commissioners of municipal corporation.
