Agartala, 6th July 2023: Taking advantage of son-in-law’s posting a police sub-inspector, father-in-law Santosh Debnath had set up a boozing party with country-made liquors at Kanchanmala market on the late evening of Wednesday last. The other businessmen attacked Debnath and vandalized his shop. At last, the Amtali police station staff rushed to protect the dignity of the policeman’s father-in-law.

It is reported that this person named Santosh Debnath has been selling country-made liquor illegally for a long time in Kanchanmala market under Golaghati assembly constituency. The local Kanchanmala market traders repeatedly asked liquor dealer Santosh Debnath to stop the liquor business, but Santosh could not give up the illegal liquor business. He had been selling liquor in the vegetable market every day from morning till late night. Liquor merchant Santosh Debnath’s son-in-law is working as Sub-Inspector of Tripura Police. And so, showing the power of the son-in-law, the liquor business was being carried on illegally for a long time.

It is alleged that Santosh has threatened the businessmen of Kanchanmala market by involving them in false cases, whenever they made attempt to stop such illegal liquor business. Finally, the patience of traders broke on Wednesday night. The local bazaar traders got together and raided Santosh Debnath’s liquor shop.

Market traders raided that day and destroyed many bottles and drums full of country-made liquor. Later, the market traders informed Amtali police station. Amtali police and TSR forces rushed to control the situation after receiving the information.

The local market traders told the media that because of Santosh Debnath’s liquor business, the peace and order of Kanchanmala market and the surrounding area is being destroyed. Another police sub-inspector rushed from Amtali police station to investigate the matter but it was seen that he had supported his colleague sub-inspector i.e Santosh’s son-in-law. The colleague of SI did not even thought of arresting him. After pacifying the angry traders in the area, he left.
