Agartala: July 06. Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Animesh Debbarma, strongly criticized the state government for appointing an ex-BJP MLA to lead a committee tasked with selecting a script for the Kokborok language.

Debbarma said that the committee members lack the necessary qualifications and expertise for the job at hand.

He pointed out that none of the members have conducted extensive research or published any literary works in Kokborok. Additionally, he highlighted the limited proficiency in Kokborok of the committee’s convener, Dr. Atul Debbarma, who is an ex-BJP MLA. The other members, Dhirendra Kaloi and Biralal Tripura, were also criticized for their lack of scholarly achievements in the most spoken indigenous language of the state.

He expressed disappointment in the government’s disregard for these qualified individuals and their expertise.

Debbarma expressed concern about the government’s requirement of domicile certificates for government jobs and raised issues regarding the cancellation of previous interviews and the need for fresh examinations. He urged the government to consider granting jobs to aspirants who had successfully cleared the eligibility test for Graduate Teachers based on their merit list. The notification announcing the formation of the new committee was issued on June 27, and it was met with condemnation by Choba, an organization advocating for the use of the Roman script for Kokborok.
