Agartala, August 02: State has witnessed its first death due to dengue infection in Dhanpur, Sonamura subdivision. The deceased has been identified as Subhash Sarkar (65) from the Sankhmura area of Dhanpur. The incident has raised serious concerns as dengue has been spreading rampantly in the region for the past two weeks, affecting numerous residents.

The health department initially hesitated to acknowledge the dengue outbreak, leading to an uncontrolled situation. Subhash Sarkar’s son revealed that his father was taken to Dhanpur Primary Health Center when he was found with symptoms of fever. Later, he was referred to Sonamura Social Health Center and finally to a private hospital in Agartala. Unfortunately, Subhash Sarkar could not be saved and passed away on Monday night.

Following the tragic death, the family members expressed dissatisfaction with the services provided at TMC and opted to move Subhash Sarkar to a private hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to the infection.

Allegations have been made against the health department for attempting to cover up the incident. Initially, officials under the subdivision refused to acknowledge the truth of the dengue-related death when questioned by journalists. However, Dr. Rajesh Das, the in-charge of Sub-Divisional Health Officer, eventually confirmed that the antigen test indicated Subhash Sarkar was indeed infected with dengue.

In response to the escalating situation, an emergency meeting was convened at Sonamura Social Welfare Center by the health department. The meeting aimed to discuss various strategies for dealing with the dengue outbreak and address the rising concerns among the public.
