Agartala, August 05, 2022: Altogether, 2 lakh 94 thousand 316 applications were filed seeking admission through Common University Exam Test (CUET) for post-graduate (PG) courses in Tripura University (Central).
Speaking to reporters here at the premises of Tripura University’s council hall on Friday afternoon, Vice-Chancellor Prof Ganga Prasad Prasain said “Tripura University bagged the fourth position with the highest number of applicants after Banaras Hindu University, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow and Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar in Uttarakhand.”
“In total, 2,94,316 applicants filed their documents seeking admission through CUET for 39 PG courses with an intake capacity of only 3031 seats in the Tripura University. At present, 4,597 students are studying in 39 departments including Ph.D scholars and 7 international students,” he added.
Prof Prasain said “A seven-member team of officials from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) from Bengaluru visited Tripura University for a three-day tour from August 1 last. The results and grade is likely to be announced in next week.”
“We have plan to open new departments after getting approval from the United Grants Commission and Ministry of Education. The departments are- Social Work, National Security Study, Manipuri Dance and Yoga. Probably, these departments will start its academic session from 2023-24”, he also added.
Being asked about shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff, Deputy Registrar Dr Somdev Banik said “There is a shortage of 145 faculties and about 70 employees of the Tripura University.”
