Anganwadi Kendra locked and protest in Melaghar

Agartala, August 05: Residents of the neighborhood expressed their outrage at the hiring of an external woman for a position at the Anganwadi Kendra in Melaghar. The incident took place a short distance away from Lal Mia Chowmuhani on the main road leading to Sonamura.

The controversy arose when the previous teachers and helper’s tenure at the Anganwadi Kendra in the area expired, and a new woman was appointed to the teaching position in Ward 7. Although there were no objections to hiring the teacher, the helper position was given to Purnima Das instead of the woman from the neighboring household who had been interviewed earlier.

When Purnima Das arrived to start her work as a helper at the Anganwadi Kendra on Saturday, the women from the neighboring households were surprised to find that the helper’s position was not given to Abul Basar’s wife, Nazma Begum, as discussed during the council meeting with local councilor and Vice Chairman of Melaghar Municipal Council, Gurupada Roy. The local women claimed that if Nazma Begum was not appointed as a helper at the Anganwadi Center, they would continue to protest, and the Kendra’s doors would remain locked.

The women further alleged that the hiring of the teacher was done without any issues, but there was a mystery surrounding Purnima Das’ appointment as a helper, and they questioned the reasons behind Gurupada Roy appointing her instead of Nazma Begum.

The situation has sparked controversy in the community, and the locals are demanding transparency and accountability in the hiring process at the Anganwadi Kendra. They emphasized that the teacher’s appointment was acceptable, but the decision regarding the helper’s position should be reconsidered and Nazma Begum should be given the opportunity.
