Agartala, 4th October 2023 : In a significant development, Tripura Police have successfully arrested Biplab Das, the prime suspect in the mob lynching of Nandu Sarkar on June 29, on suspicion of cattle theft.
The incident, which took place at Baldakhaal Bridge area, sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a thorough investigation. Despite Nandu Sarkar’s well-established reputation as an animal lover with no criminal record, he was brutally attacked after being accused of cow theft. His wife, Sonali Deb Sarkar, vehemently denied any involvement in the alleged theft.
Initial inquiries led to the detention of three individuals from the Baldakhaal area. However, the main suspect, Biplab Das, remained elusive, managing to evade authorities for three months. Today, following an extensive manhunt, police successfully apprehended Das.
“The arrest of Biplab Das marks a pivotal moment in this tragic case,” declared OC Rana Chatterjee of the East police station. “While four other individuals are now in custody, the motive behind the murder remains unclear. Our priority is to ascertain if multiple individuals were involved and to uncover the true circumstances that led to this heinous crime,” he emphasized.
Das, along with the three other accused individuals, is scheduled to appear in court, where authorities will seek police remand for further investigation. The hope is that this step will shed light on the underlying reasons and those responsible for Nandu Sarkar’s untimely demise.
