Agartala, 4th  October 2023 :  In a determined move to alleviate congestion in Agartala city, Mayor Dipak Majumdar of Agartala Muncipal Corporation personally oversaw an eviction operation in GB Bazar this morning.

Following the eviction drive, the Mayor engaged with local businessmen, directing them to expedite the construction of a drainage system.

The Corporation’s eviction campaign, which commenced as per the pre-scheduled announcement, witnessed the demolition of unlawfully erected shops lining both sides of the GB Bazar road. Mayor Majumdar stressed that these establishments encroached upon government-owned land and had received prior notices for removal or vacation.

During the inspection, Mayor Majumdar revealed that numerous warnings had been issued to the illegal occupants, but many disregarded the directives. He emphasized the necessity of swift road construction as prioritized by the current government. In light of this, the Corporation has deemed it imperative to clear not only the 48 temporary shops but also the older establishments within the city.

Commencing from tomorrow, the drainage project within the market area is set to begin. This endeavor marks a significant step towards the planned expansion and decongestion of Agartala city.
