Agartala: August 20. Information and Cultural Affairs minister Sushanta Chowdhury in an oblique reference of the then left front government said that there was a time when there was an attempt to distort history by denying the role of Tripura kings in the development of the state.
Minister Chowdhury said this while inaugurating a discussion meeting organized by Tripura Digital Media Society at Agartala Press Club this evening.
“It is because of the contribution of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya that we the people of tribal and non tribal section are able to live together in Tripura. There was a time when there was an attempt to distort history by denying the role of Tripura kings in the development of the state. The Maharajas played a commendable role in the development of princely Tripura. At present, the government is working with the aim of bringing the role of kings in the development of Tripura to the public and taking people from all parts forward”, the minister said.
The main topic of discussion was Rajnya Tripura and India’s freedom struggle.Participating in the discussion, the Minister of Information and Cultural affairs said, that Maharaja Bir Bikram visited Europe and understood the issues of education, culture, health services there and used it for the development of Tripura. He expressed the hope that if the contribution of the people of Tripura in the freedom movement is revealed through research, the names of freedom fighters of the state will be remembered with respect along with other scholars of the country.
