Agartala, January 22: The Churaibari police station staff on Monday successfully intercepted a vehicle carrying dry cannabis, valued at a staggering Rs 21 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, Officer-in-Charge Samaresh Das of Churaibari Police Station conducted the operation after receiving intelligence that a vehicle laden with ganja was en route from Tripura to an undisclosed foreign destination.

The operation took place on Monday afternoon as police forces assembled at Naka Point, strategically positioned in front of the Churaibari police station. Subsequently, a container vehicle with registration number MH40BL-7944 was apprehended and subjected to a thorough search.

During the search operation, police recovered ten packets containing a total of 72 kilograms of ganja. North Tripura District’s Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty, revealed that the estimated black market value of the seized contraband is a whopping Rs 100 lakh.

The authorities promptly arrested the driver, Bijoy Kumar Rebat, and the co-driver, Idris Ali. Both individuals hail from Assam, and investigations have unveiled that the arrested duo was allegedly transporting ganja from Agartala to Guwahati.

SP Chakraborty emphasized the collaborative effort of law enforcement agencies in curbing the illegal drug trade and ensuring the safety of the public. The arrested individuals will face legal proceedings in connection with the illicit transportation of cannabis.
