Agartala, January 27: The Government’s Jal Jeevan Mission project, which aims to provide clean drinking water to every household, has failed to deliver on its promise in some areas of Tripura. Residents of Ward No. 1 of Kanchanmala area under Golagathi assembly constituency have complained that they are getting iron-contaminated water instead of pure drinking water.

A water pump machine was installed in the area several years ago to supply water to the households. Recently, a filter was added to the pump machine under the government’s initiative to ensure pure filtered drinking water. However, the filter seems to be malfunctioning, as it is sending pure filtered water to one side and red water with iron to the other side. As a result, the people on the iron-contaminated side are unable to drink or use this water for any purpose.

Locals said that this problem has been occurring frequently and that they have reported it to the concerned department. They said that the reason for the iron contamination is that the water pipe has not been cleaned for a long time and that iron has accumulated inside it. They demanded that the department should take immediate action to clean the pipe and provide them with clean filtered drinking water as soon as possible.
