US destroyed 4 drones in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen

Date:

The United States destroyed four drones in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

“On March 22, between approximately 4:22 a.m. and 11:10 p.m. (Sanaa time), United States Central Command (CENTCOM) forces successfully engaged and destroyed four unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in Houthi controlled areas of Yemen in self-defence,” the statement said.

It said Houthis had fired four anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) from areas of Yemen they control towards the Red Sea, adding that there were no injuries or damage reported by US, coalition, or commercial ships.

Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement, whose members are also known as Houthis, vowed in November 2023 to attack any ships associated with Israel until it halts military actions in the Gaza Strip. This led the United States to announce a multinational operation to secure navigation in the Red Sea. US and UK forces later launched numerous strikes against Houthi positions in a bid to degrade their ability to target commercial vessels.
