Agartala, 2nd April 2024: Former Minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman made a bold accusation on Tuesday, alleging that Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the founder of Tipra Motha, had switched allegiance to the BJP to provide cover for Kriti Singh Debbarma and her husband from facing scrutiny by the CBI.
Kriti Singh Debbarma is now the BJP’s candidate for the East (ST) Parliamentary Seat in Tripura.
Addressing a rally in Ambassa under Dhalai District, where CPIM and INDI alliance candidate Rajendra Reang submitted his nomination for the East (ST) Parliamentary Seat, Roy Barman lambasted the BJP, asserting that the party has inflicted severe damage upon the nation.
“In this election, the BJP’s slogan is ‘Vikshi Bharat.’ How can a country be ‘Vikshit Bharat’ (developed India) when the Prime Minister announces that the BJP government is providing free 5 kgs of rice to 80 crore people just to win elections? Due to the burden of debt, the prices of essential commodities are skyrocketing, while incomes remain stagnant. This government is not a friend of tribals, non-tribals, or the poor but rather a friend of corporates. India has lost its identity. The bank accounts of the Congress have been frozen in a conspiracy to prevent the party from contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP government led by Narendra Modi will use agencies like the ED and CBI against anyone who protests. Unemployment is increasing day by day. The BJP is against SCs and STs,” said Roy Barman.
Roy Barman then proceeded to criticize the BJP’s choice of candidates, accusing them of recruiting individuals from outside the state due to a dearth of suitable candidates.
“Kriti Singh Debbarma, the BJP’s candidate and sister of Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, along with her husband, is allegedly embroiled in a murder case arising from a property dispute. The wife of the deceased filed a case with the High Court, alleging that the police failed to investigate the murder properly, leading to scrutiny by the CBI. These incidents have been widely reported in the news. Hence, the individual who championed slogans like ‘One Last Fight,’ ‘Thansa,’ ‘No Compromise,’ and ‘Greater Tipraland’ has ostensibly joined the BJP solely to shield his sister and her husband from CBI investigation,” he stated.
Furthermore, Roy Barman accused Pradyot of betraying the tribal community. “Do those who have forsaken the interests of the tribal community deserve to earn votes in the Lok Sabha elections? Tribal people have been manipulated for votes for far too long,” he concluded.
