Agartala, 2nd July 2024:   Left youth organizations, spearheaded by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), have commenced a two-week statewide agitation to demand job creation and combat drug addiction in Tripura.

DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb announced the protest during a press conference today. He outlined a series of programs planned over the next 14 days, including meetings, gatherings, marches, and deputations, aimed at addressing critical issues affecting the state. The primary focus will be on job creation and addressing drug addiction.

Deb emphasized the urgency of completing long-pending recruitment processes, such as the GRS exam conducted in 2019, and filling various posts including STGT and Group-D positions. “The movement calls for immediate action to finalize these processes and provide employment to the youth,” he stated.

He also criticized the state government for allegedly undermining the education infrastructure through systematic decisions. The protest demands the restoration of the education system and improvements in essential services such as electricity and healthcare across the state.

Addressing the rising issue of drug addiction, the agitation calls for stringent measures against drug dealers and the dismantling of drug networks within the state. This includes preventing private appointments in government offices, which are viewed as part of the problem, according to Deb.

The youth organizations are committed to sustaining the protest for the full two weeks, aiming to highlight these pressing issues and pressure the government into taking immediate and effective action.
