179 Battalion of BSF thwarts cow smuggling attempt, faces resistance at Dharmanagar

Agartala, 5th July 2024:   The 179 Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted a cow smuggling operation near Alkapar, preventing the illicit transport of ten cows destined for Bangladesh. The incident escalated into a confrontation between BSF personnel and the smugglers, exacerbated by the intervention of several women who obstructed the BSF’s duties.

Subsequently, Dharmanagar police station staff arrived to support BSF efforts, facilitating the release of the obstructing women and seizing the ten cows. The BSF handed over the vehicles and cows to Dharmanagar police station on Friday morning.

The identified perpetrators are Liaquat Ali and Islam Uddin of Sakaibari admitted to their involvement in the smuggling attempt during interrogation. They confessed to procuring the cows from Bachu Mia in Kumarghat for illegal export primarily to Bangladesh.
