Agartala, 6th July 2024:  Agartala, a city steeped in tradition is set to celebrate the revered Rath Yatra festival at the Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Mathstha Jagannath Jiu temple. The historical roots of this festival date back to the king’s period when the Maharaja of Tripura entrusted the temple’s service to Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math. Since then, the Rath Yatra has been a prominent event in the religious calendar.

This year, the deity Jagat Pati Jagannath will mount the chariot on Shukla II Tithi, marking the commencement of the festivities. Accompanied by his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, Jagannath Dev will journey to the Gundicha temple. Preparations are in full swing at the Agartala Jagannath house.

The rituals began with Gundicha Marjan, followed by Netratsav this evening. After a fifteen-day period of seclusion post the bathing ceremony, Jagannath will bless the devotees with his darshan. The Rath Yatra, set to take place tomorrow, promises to be a grand affair.

A five-day religious gathering and a vibrant fair have been organized to mark the occasion. Bhakti Kamal Vaishnav Maharaj, the keeper of the Jagannath Jew Temple Math, shared his excitement, stating that devotees are already flocking to the temple premises. “The Rath Yatra festival will be celebrated with great joy,” he remarked, reflecting the enthusiasm and devotion of the community.
