Agartala, 9th September 2024: In a heart-wrenching incident, Zahir Uddin, a 38-year-old resident of Bejimara village, Sonamura lost his life while selflessly aiding flood victims. Zahir, known for his lifelong dedication to social service, was distributing relief materials when he was bitten by an unknown poisonous insect. Despite receiving treatment at multiple hospitals, he succumbed to the bite on the evening of Sunday last.

Zahir’s passion for social service was evident from a young age. During the recent floods that inundated most of Sonamura sub-division, including his own village, he couldn’t stay home. Driven by a sense of duty, he waded through waist-deep waters to rescue stranded individuals and deliver essential supplies. Tragically, it was during one of these missions that he was bitten by the insect.

He was initially admitted to the Sonamura Sub-District Hospital and later transferred to GB Hospital and a private hospital in the state. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, he could not be saved.

Zahir leaves behind a young son and daughter. His untimely death raises a poignant question: Will the government step in to support his bereaved family in their time of need? The community mourns the loss of a true hero who gave his life in service to others.
