SIT to probe eight important NDPS cases in Tripura

Agartala: September 12. Tripura Police has transferred eight cases ‘important’ cases related to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) to Special Investigation Team which was formed at Tripura Police Crime Branch for facilitate concerted investigation.

In a press release Tripura Police has said that issues related to recent seizure of huge quantity of illegal drugs in the State of Tripura have been reviewed at Senior Level in Police Head Quarters.

“Emphasising zero tolerance towards drug menace and to make Tripura a Drug free state, issues related to recent seizure of huge quantity of illegal drugs in the State of Tripura have been reviewed at Senior Level in Police Head Quarters, Tripura. After review it has been decided that 8 (Eight) important NDPS cases will be transferred to Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed at Tripura Police Crime Branch to facilitate concerted, focused and thorough investigation in coordination with Central & other State Agencies to identify the organised network involved in such illegal activities”, it reads.

The Tripura Police in the last three years has arrested 1655 contraband smugglers and seized contraband items of Rs 62.95 crores which significantly increased from 2019 to 2021.
