Agartala, 16th September 2024: An auto-rickshaw driver was brutally beaten to death in broad daylight following an accident involving a schoolgirl.
According to the brother of the deceased, a resident of Jirania and an auto-rickshaw driver by profession Gouranga Debnath was involved in an accident near Indranagar Bazar. A schoolgirl sustained minor injuries in the incident. However, the girl’s family without fully understanding the situation went to Gouranga’s house and assaulted him.
“They first took away the auto-rickshaw and then, in the absence of our family members, they severely beat Gouranga. He suffered a serious head injury. Locals immediately rescued him and rushed him to GB Hospital,” the brother recounted.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Gouranga succumbed to his injuries today while undergoing treatment.
Adding to the family’s grief, the accused have reportedly threatened them against filing a police complaint. “They told us to settle the matter among ourselves and not to go to the police,” the brother alleged.
Despite these threats, the family of the deceased has filed a case with the local police station, seeking justice for Gouranga.
