Agartala: September 16. State government has decided to install 50 more microgrids in the rural hamlets where conventional electricity is not available. Speaking with reporters Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma said that solar power grids have been proposed for such villages where extension of traditional power connectivity is not feasible and so far 12 such grids had already been installed.
“With the financial support of the State Government, Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) is working to reach remote tribal hill hamlets/habitations of Tripura where conventional electricity is not available or reachable for many years by setting up solar microgrid projects. Already 12 such villages have been electrified at a cost of Rs 1.20 crore and inhabitants are progressing educationally and financially by using electrical appliances like lights, TV, mobiles, internet, handloom and handicraft works at night etc”, he said.
He further said that a solar microgrid (2 KWp) was inaugurated last year at Sarkhipara village and 17 families of that village are enjoying its benefits.“Electrification work at 50 more such remote villages through solar microgrid has already started at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore. During a recently held meeting with PM Modi and the Union Power Minister, I raised a demand for 500 such micro-grids capable of providing uninterrupted power to small villages”, the minister said.Apart from that he also said that around 22,500 solar street lights had been installed in village market areas, he added.
