Agartala, 2nd November 2024:    The vibrant celebrations of Govardhan Puja and Annakoot Utsav have taken place today in numerous homes across the state and in various temples throughout the country. Among the temples marking this festive occasion are the ISKCON temple and Jagannath Jew temple in Agartala city.

The organizer of Govardhan Puja at the ISKCON temple shared with media persons that the Annakoot festival is an integral part of the Govardhan Puja celebrations. He explained that the day of Govardhan Puja commemorates the event in the Bhagavata Purana when Lord Krishna raised Govardhana Hill to protect the villagers of Vrindavan from torrential rains. This festival celebrates Lord Krishna’s triumph over the deity Indra.

“Govardhan Puja, also known as the Annakoot festival, involves creating a mound of food in the shape of Govardhan Hill, which is then offered to Lord Krishna. The food is later distributed among the devotees as Prasad, symbolizing the sharing of blessings,” a saint said.

He also mentioned that, as part of the Govardhan festival, a lamp donation event has been organized for the devotees in the evening. “Devotees can collect lamps from the temple authorities free of charge and light them at the Lord’s feet. We urge everyone to participate in this event and join us in the celebrations,” he said.

The festivities have brought a sense of joy and unity among the community, reflecting the deep cultural and spiritual significance of Govardhan Puja and Annakoot Utsav.
