Agartala, 4th November 2024:   The Samed Ali Para Anganwadi Kendra in Ward No. 3 of Kalam Khet Gram Panchayat under Mohanbhog RD block is grappling with severe challenges. The Anganwadi Kendra in Ward No. 4 of Melaghar Kalam Khet Gram Panchayat has been facing a persistent lack of drinking water and frequent theft incidents.

Despite the installation of a water mission tank, the school has not received any water supply. Consequently, the water needed for cooking nutritious meals for the children is sourced from a neighboring house using a tube tap, which unfortunately is not arsenic-free. The school has also fallen victim to theft. On the night of Lakshmi Puja, thieves stole a tube phone from the Anganwadi Kendra, exacerbating the water issues.

Local residents report that thefts are a frequent problem at the school. Recently, some youths removed the iron pipes installed inside the Jal Jeevan Mission’s plastic tank. “Our school is in a precarious situation,” lamented Purna Lakshmi Das, a grandmother at the school. “The absence of drinking water and the constant threat of theft make it very difficult for us to ensure the children’s well-being.”

The community is calling for immediate intervention to address the water shortage and improve security measures at the Anganwadi Kendra to create a safe and conducive learning environment for the children.
