Agartala, 4th November 2024: The District-level Youth Festival and Science Fair 2024 commenced on Monday at Unakoti Kalakshetra in Kailasahar, the headquarters of Unakoti district. The event was formally inaugurated by ARD, Fisheries & SC Welfare minister Sudhangshu Das, who was joined by Sabhadipati of Unakoti Zilla Parishad Amalendu Das, District Magistrate Pradip Sarkar, Youth Affairs and Sports Department Officer Amit Yadav and other guests.
Minister Sudhangshu Das along with other guests inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp at around 12 noon. Youth Affairs and Sports Department Officer Amit Yadav delivered the welcome speech setting the tone for the event.
The youth festival features competitions in five subjects including folk dance, recitation and speech, among other events. Due to the recent flood situation in the state, the festival was organized at the district level instead of the usual Block and Municipal Council levels.
In his inaugural speech, Minister Das emphasized the significance of the youth festival. “The present youth society is the future of our nation. This youth festival holds great importance as it provides a platform to advance the youth of our district in various ways. Developing the talent of our youth is a primary aim of this festival,” he stated. He further highlighted that the festival is organized annually to identify and nurture young talent in music, dance, and drama.
Minister Das expressed his hope that the festival would conclude without any controversy. Following his speech, he personally felicitated Rabindra Bhattacharya, a prominent dramatist of the state. The minister also visited various science-related stalls, appreciating the efforts and creativity of the participants.
The event has generated significant enthusiasm among the youth, with many looking forward to showcasing their talents and learning from their peers. The festival is expected to foster a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition among the participants, contributing to their overall development.
