Agartala, 13th November 2024: In a peculiar twist to recent theft cases, the otherwise quiet city of Agartala is seeing a spike in an unusual kind of theft, as an alleged thief from Uttar Pradesh was caught red-handed while pilfering from a local pharmacy in the Krishnanagar Kadmatoli area.
The alleged thief, known to frequent the area daily in clean attire and a bag over his shoulder, had reportedly been discreetly stealing various items from a pharmacy without any regard for the security cameras installed.
The pharmacy staff, suspicious of frequent product discrepancies, reviewed CCTV footage and noticed the same man carrying out a routine heist disguised as a regular customer. The man reportedly entered the pharmacy each day, filling his bag with items, including toiletries and personal care products, without making any payment.
On Wednesday morning, vigilant staff members caught him in the act. As the man moved to pilfer items once more, employees kept a close watch, catching him red-handed as he attempted to pocket lotions, shampoos, mirrors, and other goods—valued at an estimated ₹45,000.
Following the arrest, the West Agartala Police were immediately informed. Upon reaching the scene, police officials confiscated the stolen goods found in the accused’s bag. The suspect, reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, has allegedly been involved in multiple such incidents around Agartala, raising concerns about organized theft in the area.
Authorities have now initiated an investigation to determine the full extent of his activities and to confirm if he has connections to other similar cases across the region.
