Agartala, 19th November  2024 : In a shocking incident, a BSNL worker was assaulted by miscreants while attempting to prevent cable theft in the Sonatala area of Khowai on Tuesday morning. The victim, Chandan Dutta, an ATT employee of BSNL posted in Agartala, sustained injuries during the attack.

According to reports, Chandan Dutta received information around 11 am about suspected miscreants cutting BSNL cables near the company’s work site in Sonatala. Acting swiftly, he reached the spot and began recording the miscreants’ activities on his mobile phone as evidence.

Enraged by being caught on video, the three accused—identified as Khokon Roy, Billa, and Jahar Shil, according to local sources—allegedly charged at Chandan, assaulted him, and threw him to the ground in an attempt to cause serious harm. The situation could have escalated further had local residents not intervened.

While fleeing, the assailants reportedly snatched Chandan Dutta’s mobile phone containing the evidence.

The incident has sparked outrage in the area, with BSNL and the injured employee filing an official complaint at Khowai police station later that evening. The police have registered a case, and investigations are underway to apprehend the accused.

This attack has raised concerns about the safety of telecom workers who are often tasked with protecting essential infrastructure under challenging circumstances.
