Agartala, 28th November 2024:  The new signers reception ceremony under the Ullas Nav Bharat Literacy Program was held today at Kulai Colony High School. Organized by the Dhalai District Education Officer’s Office in collaboration with NILP Dhalai and SLMA Tripura, this event marked the first New Signers Reception Ceremony in the state.

A total of 1098 individuals from all blocks of Dhalai district participated in the literacy test in 2024, out of which 59 successfully passed. These new signers were felicitated at the ceremony, receiving certificates and honor index mementos. Dhalai Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Sushmita Das inaugurated the event by lighting the Mangaldwip. She was accompanied by District Education Officer Jatan Kumar Debbarma, District Education Department’s OSD Apu Chanda and Kulai Colony High School’s Acting Principal Ratan Saha.

In her address, Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Das emphasized the importance of literacy for national development. “To move the country towards development, it is necessary for everyone to be literate. Prime Minister Modiji recognized this and initiated this literacy campaign across India. This campaign is active in every state, and in Tripura, the state government is playing a crucial role in its success. The officials of the Education Department are working tirelessly to make Tripura an illiteracy-free state,” she stated.

District Education Officer Jatan Kumar Debbarma shared the ambitious goal of achieving 100 percent literacy in Tripura by the 2024-25 fiscal year. “We are dedicated to making Tripura a fully literate state this year. To achieve this, we are making great efforts to identify and educate those who are still illiterate in every block of the district,” he said.

OSD Apu Chanda elaborated on the central government’s NILP or ULLAS project, launched in April 2022, aiming to achieve universal literacy by 2027. “The ULLAS project focuses on Foundational Literacy, Critical Life Skills, Basic Education, Vocational Skills, and Continuous Meditation. It is designed to make every citizen of the country literate,” Chanda explained.

Representatives from every block of the district were present at the event, alongside school students and other dignitaries. The ceremony underscored the collective efforts to promote literacy and highlighted the significant progress made in Dhalai district. The honored new signers received their accolades amidst applause, marking a milestone in the district’s journey towards literacy.
