Agartala, 2nd January 2025 : Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has claimed that the political landscape of Tripura is witnessing a shift, as evidenced by the growing participation in rallies and meetings organized by the CPI(M).
Addressing a public meeting at Agartala Town Hall, held in protest against derogatory remarks made about Dr. BR Ambedkar, Sarkar stated, “A touch of change is becoming apparent in Tripura’s politics. The increasing turnout at CPI(M) events demonstrates that people are no longer willing to be misled by the BJP government.”
Calling for statewide protests to demand a change in governance, the veteran CPI(M) leader highlighted that dissatisfaction with the ruling BJP government is rising. “The people of Tripura have realized that the RSS-backed BJP government has failed to deliver on its promises. Their clever election manifestos aimed at misleading the public have backfired,” said Sarkar, a Politburo member of the CPI(M).
He accused the BJP government at both the state and central levels of neglecting the needs of the people. Sarkar alleged that while the BJP government at the center promised financial assistance during election campaigns, no tangible help has materialized. “The Union Finance Minister pledged financial aid during the Tripura elections, but nothing has been delivered. Their sole intent was to manipulate the public and secure power,” he remarked.
Sarkar criticized the BJP for failing to fulfill its 2018 election promises. “The BJP promised to implement the Seventh Pay Commission for government employees, a significant demand at the time. But six years later, this promise remains unfulfilled. Additionally, they pledged to ensure a regular wage of Rs. 300, yet the current rate stands at Rs. 240. Such betrayals have left the people disillusioned,” he said.
Urging the public not to fall prey to the BJP’s tactics, Sarkar emphasized the need for a unified movement to demand change.
“When people reject the BJP’s deceit, the fight for government change gathers momentum. This momentum must be sustained and strengthened. We must resist the lure of greed and fight for a storm of change across Tripura,” he added. Sarkar’s remarks underscore the CPI(M)’s growing optimism about regaining political traction in Tripura, as the state’s political dynamics continue to evolve.
