Agartala, 6th January 2025: A shocking incident of alleged violence and misconduct by two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was reported from Rahimpur, a border village under Boxnagar block, on Sunday night.
The incident has left several injured and sparked outrage among locals, who have accused the BSF of harassment and termed the act as “state terrorism.” The violence reportedly occurred around 9 p.m. near Rahimpur Bazar, where a religious gathering, the Waz Mahfil, was underway. Eyewitnesses stated that two intoxicated BSF jawans from Battalion 49, stationed between gates 165 and 166 near Ashabari Border Outpost (BOP), created chaos in the area.

The jawans allegedly vandalized seven motorbikes near the market and attacked a shop owned by Paritosh Sutradhar, severely beating him and destroying his shop. The violence escalated when the BSF personnel entered the house of local resident Dhan Mia and assaulted him with a stick.
When Dhan Mia’s daughter, Nasima Akhter, tried to intervene, the jawans reportedly attacked her, breaking her hand. The violence culminated in the firing of rubber bullets at 15-year-old Iman Hossain, the only son of Shafiul Islam, who sustained critical injuries.
Iman Hossain and Nasima Akhter were rushed to the Boxnagar Social Health Center, where they received initial treatment. Both were later referred to Agartala GB Pant Hospital for advanced care.
Outraged by the incident, hundreds of residents gathered outside Kalamchoura Police Station, demanding the immediate arrest of the two jawans. The protesters alleged that BSF personnel from Ashabari, Katamura, and Boxnagar BOPs frequently harass locals without cause.
Following the protests, Kalamchoura police initiated a preliminary investigation. Officer-in-Charge Nadu Gopal Dev visited Ashabari BOP to gather evidence. A case has been filed against the two accused jawans, the company commander, and the post commander based on the locals’ complaint.
Local residents have vowed to continue their demonstrations if the accused are not held accountable. They have urged higher authorities to intervene and ensure an end to what they describe as systematic harassment by BSF personnel in the region.
The situation remains tense, with police assuring a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. Meanwhile, the residents of Rahimpur await concrete action to restore peace and order in their border community.
