Agartala, 8th January 2025 :   The CITU Udaipur Sub-divisional Committee organized a procession and meeting at Udaipur to advocate for an eight-point demand list including the regularization of contractual project workers. The event began with the submission of a representative demand certificate to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

The procession started from the CPIM Udaipur divisional office at Jamtala, wound its way through Central Road, Old Motor Stand, Mahadev Dighi Par and New Town Road before concluding back at Jamtala. CITU state general secretary Sankar Prasad Datta, state leader Panchali Bhattacharjee, Udaipur Divisional Committee Divisional secretary Dilip Datta and other leaders were present.

In her speech, leader Bhattacharjee highlighted the key demands including the regularization of irregular project workers, 200 days of work for REGA with 600 taka wages, prevention of price hikes and appropriate compensation for flood victims. She criticized the current ruling party BJP for halting the rights and allowances that workers and employees enjoyed during the Left Front government.

“The allowances of many have been stopped, and workers are being attacked at work. The government must take immediate responsibility for the protection of workers,” Bhattacharjee stated.

She further criticized the double engine government for failing to achieve overall welfare, citing rising prices, lack of employment, and inadequate education and healthcare facilities. “People have lost their purchasing power, and there is no work or food in the villages. The government is a silent spectator while the youth drown in addiction and unemployment,” she said.

Bhattacharjee also questioned the government’s priorities, pointing out the Prime Minister’s frequent travels. “The current government is talking big words, but whose money is being spent on these travels?” she asked.

She called upon everyone to unite and build a movement to force the government to provide work for the workers and address the rising prices of goods. “We must come out on the streets and demand 200 days of work for MGNREGA and Rs 600 wages,” she urged.
