Police Conduct Massive Raid, Destroy 52,000 Cannabis Plants in Belbari

Agartala, 10th January 2025:   Tripura Police, in a coordinated operation involving the CRPF, TSR, SPO Jawans successfully raided multiple plots of government land in the Belbari area on Friday morning.

The team, led by Bishalgarh Police Station OC Sanjit Sen, uprooted and destroyed 52,000 cannabis plants, burning them to ashes. 

The operation, based on a secret tip-off, began early in the morning and continued until noon. Sources reveal that cannabis dealers have been encroaching on government land in the deep forests of the area, cultivating large-scale cannabis gardens every winter. 

This raid is part of a broader drive initiated under orders from senior state police officials to tackle the growing menace of cannabis cultivation in Sepahijala district. The district has witnessed a surge in such illegal activities this year, with cannabis gardens being created at an unprecedented scale compared to other regions in Tripura. 

Notably, OC Sanjit Sen and his team narrowly escaped danger during the operation, highlighting the risks involved in these enforcement activities.
