Pranajit inaugurates “Jagrati-2025: Inter-College Quiz Competition” at Udaipur

Agartala, 11th January 2025:   For the first time, the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, and Transport Departments have jointly organized an awareness campaign on consumer protection, road safety, and the dangers of drug abuse. The inauguration of the selection round of “Jagrati-2025: Inter-College Quiz Competition” took place at Rajarshi Kalakshetra in Udaipur on Saturday.

The event was inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp by Finance and IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Food, CS & CA, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Tribal Welfare and Minority Welfare Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, Tripura High Court Judge Justice Arindam Lodh, MLAs Abhishek Debroy, Jitendra Majumdar and Ranjit Das, FCS and CA and Education Secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar, Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, Udaipur Municipal Council Mayor Shital Chandra Majumdar, and Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Debal Debroy along with other high-ranking officials from various departments.

The primary objective of the event was to raise awareness among students from Gomati, Sepahijala, and South Tripura districts about consumer protection, road safety, and the misuse of drugs.

Justice Arindam Lodh of the Tripura High Court emphasized, “Addiction not only destroys the individual but also the entire family. I urge mothers, sisters, and club organizations to come forward and work towards a drug-free Tripura.”

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury highlighted the significance of the quiz competition, stating, “A new chapter in education and awareness has begun in Tripura with ‘Jagrati Quiz, Tripura 2025.’ This mega quiz competition, organized for the first time at the college level, aims to enhance awareness among students about consumer rights, road safety, and anti-drug measures.”

The competition is structured in three district-based phases and a state-level final. The first phase involves selection rounds within colleges and higher education institutions. The second phase includes district-level competitions divided into three regions: South Tripura, Gomati, and Sepahijala districts on January 11, 2025, in Udaipur; North Tripura, Unakoti, and Dhalai districts on January 18, 2025, in Kumarghat; and West Tripura and Khowai districts on January 27, 2025, in Agartala.

The third phase will see the top three teams from each district compete in the state-level final on February 8, 2025, at Rabindra Bhavan. The School of Science, a prominent educational institution, is providing comprehensive support for the ‘Jagrati Quiz’ organized by the state government.

To encourage participation and creativity, technological prizes are being awarded. At the district level, the first prize is a digital camera, the second prize is a digital printer, and the third prize is a smartwatch. At the state level, the first prize is a laptop, the second prize is a tablet, and the third prize is a smartphone. Additionally, there are attractive prizes for the audience round, where spectators can win by answering quiz questions correctly.

Finance Minister Singha Roy remarked, “This quiz is not just a competition but an important medium for raising awareness. Protecting consumer rights and ensuring road safety are among the most discussed topics globally. This quiz competition in Tripura will play a crucial role in making the younger generation aware of their rights.”

He added, “Every year, approximately 1.5 lakh people die in road accidents in India. One of the main objectives of this quiz is to encourage safe driving and adherence to traffic rules among the youth. It will also play a vital role in keeping young people away from drug addiction.”
