Agartala, 12th January 2025: A protest march was organized by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Tribal Youth Federation to demand employment for the unemployed and the restoration of peace in Tripura. The march commenced at Bagama Bazaar and covered a distance of 6 kilometers, culminating at Kupilong Bazaar.
The event saw the participation of several prominent leaders, including Nabarun Deb, State Secretary of DYFI, and Shubho Chakraborty, Divisional Secretary of DYFI, alongside other senior leaders. Addressing the gathering, the youth leaders highlighted the dire state of employment and governance in the state.
In their speeches, the leaders criticized the ruling BJP government, accusing it of leading the state toward ruin over the past seven years. They alleged that thousands of positions in government offices, including police, medical staff, and teachers, remain vacant, yet no steps have been taken for recruitment. The leaders also raised concerns about the lack of safety and security for citizens, particularly women and youth, under the current administration.
The march emphasized three core demands: employment opportunities for youth, restoration of peace in the state, and an end to oppressive governance. Leaders claimed that the government has turned Tripura into a hub of drug addiction, endangering the future of the youth. They also pointed to incidents of violence, vandalism, and destruction of crops as examples of lawlessness under the BJP regime.
Youth leader Nabarun Deb called for the people of Tripura, including BJP supporters, to unite against the authoritarian government. He urged citizens to build a collective movement to address the growing unemployment, soaring prices of essential goods, and the deteriorating social fabric of the state.
The protest march reflected the growing discontent among the youth and the general public, signaling a call for change in governance and policies in Tripura.
