Agartala, 22nd January 2025: Indian Phytopathological Society (IPS), world’s third-largest society of plant pathologists has organized National Conference on “Emerging Issues and Sustainable Strategies in Plant Health Management: A Global Perspective” at Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) -Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur, Maharastraduring 19th to 21stJanuary, 2025. The conference was inaugurated by ShriNitinGadkari-Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways. Govt. of India; Dr. HimanshuPathak, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR, New Delhi and other esteemed dignitaries.
The IPS, established in 1947 by Dr. B.B. Mundkur at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, is one of the largest professional societies of plant pathologists globally.
Two Agricultural scientists from Tripura namely, Dr. Durga Prasad Awasthi, Asstt. Professor (Plant Pathology), College of Agriculture, Tripura and Dr. UtpalDey, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), KrishiVigyan Kendra, Sepahijala under Central Agricultural University, Imphal has been awarded with “Scroll of Honour” in recognition of their dedicated services to the IPS in august presence of Dr. Krishna V. Subbarao, Professor, Department of Plant Pathology, University of California, Davis, USA; Dr. Hanu R. Pappu, Professor, Department of Plant Pathology, Washington State University, Pullman, WA, USA; Dr Dilip Kumar Ghosh, Director, ICAR- Central Citrus Research Institute, Amravati Road, Nagpur and Dr. Kajal Kumar Biswas, Secretary, IPS & Principal Scientist, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
Additionally, IPS recently hosted the “IPS North-Eastern Zonal Meet & National Conference” in 26th and 27th September, 2024 at the College of Agriculture, Lembucherra, Tripura, focusing on climate-resilient agriculture and plant health management strategies, with participation from over 180 delegates.
