RPF routine search at Dharmanagar railway station recovers 14 kg of ganja

Agartala, 25th January 2025:   In a bid to strengthen security measures on the eve of Republic Day, the Dharmanagar Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a routine search at Dharmanagar railway station around this noon. During the search, RPF members found four suspicious cartons.

Upon inspection, the cartons initially appeared to contain jaggery packets. However, beneath these packets, the officers found neatly wrapped chocolate-shaped packets of ganja. A total of 14 kg of ganja was recovered from the four cartons. Unfortunately, no smugglers were apprehended during the operation.

RPF officials have noted an increase in drug dealers using railways instead of roads for smuggling. Incidents of narcotics recovery at various railway stations are on the rise, with drug gangs attempting to smuggle narcotics through both domestic networks and international infiltration.

“No matter how new methods the drug traffickers adopt, we are committed to foiling their plots. Our team is constantly on the alert,” said Dharmanagar RPF officer Bishnupada Das.

To prevent such incidents from recurring, Railway Police and RPF officials have called for cooperation from locals and increased surveillance on railway tracks.

“This huge quantity of ganja has been recovered as a result of our active search. We will continue to work hard to prevent such crimes in the future,” added Das.
