Agartala, 27th January 2025 : In a significant move towards sustainable tourism, the Mizo Convention has put forward a comprehensive proposal for the development of tourism infrastructure in Jampui Hill. The proposal, addressed to Shri Sushanta Chowdhury, the Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Tripura, outlines a series of initiatives aimed at promoting eco-friendly and community-based tourism in the region.
The letter, dated January 27, 2025, highlights the need for tourism development that not only attracts visitors but also benefits the local community and preserves the natural environment. “In follow up of our cordial and open face to face discussion with you in the backdrop of Tourism Promo Fest on 11-12 December 2024 at Eden Lodge, Jampui Hill, we hereby put forward to you in writing certain critical points of tourism development in Jampui Hill,” the letter states.
Among the key proposals is the construction of a sky-walk near Eden Lodge at Vanghmun village. This initiative aims to provide tourists with a unique vantage point to enjoy the scenic beauty of Jampui Hill. Additionally, a tracking route adjacent to the sky-walk is proposed to enhance the adventure tourism experience.
The Mizo Convention also suggests the establishment of an eco-park in collaboration with the state Forest Department. “Preferably, potential site may be explored together with the state Forest Department in the northern side of Jampui Hill near Vaisam and Hmawngchuan villages,” the letter notes. This eco-park would serve as a haven for nature lovers and contribute to the conservation of local flora and fauna.
Another significant proposal is the upgrading of the Tlaksih paragliding site. This includes the construction of an approach road, civic amenities, waste management, and sanitation facilities. The aim is to make the site more accessible and appealing to adventure enthusiasts.
Furthermore, the Mizo Convention advocates for the promotion of Thaidawr Tlâng (Betlingchhip) as a nature reserve and wildlife park. This initiative seeks to minimize human footprints and artificial structures, ensuring that the natural habitat remains undisturbed.
The letter concludes with a strong emphasis on the principles that should guide any tourism development in Jampui Hill. “It is community-based that economically benefits the local community. It is eco-friendly that protects and preserves the local environment and ecology. It is sustainable that promotes the local arts, crafts and culture,” the letter asserts.
The Mizo Convention expresses its gratitude to the Hon’ble Minister and looks forward to collaborating on this visionary tourism concept. “We thank you, Hon’ble Sir, and look forward to working together to fulfill the above tourism concept,” the letter concludes.
The proposal is signed by J.D. Mawia, President of the Mizo Convention, and Dr. Zairemthiana Pachuau, General Secretary of the Mizo Convention, reflecting the collective commitment of the organization towards sustainable tourism development in Jampui Hill.
