The meeting saw participation from key officials and stakeholders dedicated to advancing women’s rights and empowerment in the state.

This year’s International Women’s Day will be celebrated under the theme ‘For All Women and Girls’ Rights, Equality, Empowerment.’ Minister Tinku Roy directed officials to conduct special state-wide campaigns on social issues, particularly child marriage and early-age pregnancies. He emphasized the need for widespread awareness campaigns targeting workers in brick kilns, tea gardens, and various industries, ensuring their participation in discussions on health protection and social issues.

A major focus of the celebration will be awareness initiatives for girl students from classes 9 to 12, highlighting the ill effects of child marriage and early pregnancy. The Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, Jharna Debbarma, urged for grassroots-level engagement, calling for discussion meetings at the panchayat level to educate citizens in rural areas and curb crimes against women.

The events will include bicycle rallies, social media campaigns, mini marathons, football matches, and debate competitions in schools and colleges.
