Agartala, 18th March 2025:   A tragic incident shook the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial Student Hostel on Jagannath Bari Road in Agartala today evening, as the hanging body of a Class 11 student was found hanging inside her room.

The deceased, identified as Richa Debbarma, was a student of Bodhjung Girls’ School. The incident took place around 5:30 PM, sending shockwaves among fellow hostel residents. The hostel was suddenly filled with screams, prompting students and staff to rush towards room number 8, where Richa’s body was discovered.

Eyewitnesses, including workers who were present at the hostel to provide an electrical connection to a new building, reported seeing the body through a slightly open window. Using their mobile phone flashlights, they confirmed the horrifying sight and immediately alerted the authorities.

Richa Debbarma was found hanging while still dressed in her school uniform. Preliminary observations suggest that she might have taken the extreme step after returning from school on Tuesday. However, the exact reason behind her death remains unclear.

Bodhjung Girls’ School is not included in the Vidya Jyoti Scheme, and its annual examinations for classes three to eight are currently underway. On Tuesday, however, there were no exams scheduled for these classes. The exams for students of classes nine and eleven have already concluded, although practical exams for class eleven are still ongoing. Whether academic pressure or any other factor played a role in this tragic incident remains a matter of investigation.

The police, including personnel from the Women’s Police Station, have reached the hostel and initiated an inquiry. Officials are examining all possible angles, including personal, academic, and social aspects, to ascertain the cause of Richa’s death.
