Agartala, 7th April 2025:   In a significant move toward promoting self-reliance among tribal women, a grand event was held today at Bashundhara Vanchetna Kendra, where 1,900 kilograms of yarn were distributed among women from the Uttar Muhuripur Bhuratoli area. The initiative was organized by local MDC Debajit Tripura, utilizing funds from the MDC’s development reserve.

The distributed yarn is set to become the foundation for traditional garments like Riya, Pashra, and Risha—symbols of the region’s rich cultural heritage. Addressing the gathering, Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma lauded the effort stating, “Such initiatives are crucial not only for boosting economic growth but also for preserving our cultural legacy.”

MDC Tripura echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the societal value of the initiative. “The hard work of our tribal women is indispensable in shaping our community. Through this effort, we aim to empower them financially by enabling them to market their handmade garments,” he remarked.

The program has been widely appreciated, with locals commending its dual focus on cultural preservation and women’s empowerment. Many attendees expressed the hope that similar measures would expand to enhance the integration of tribal communities into broader societal frameworks.

This inspiring endeavor demonstrates the pivotal role grassroots initiatives can play in fostering self-reliance, sustaining traditional art forms, and bolstering confidence among women in tribal communities.
