Agartala, 19th April 2025:   A violent altercation between two neighboring families in Charilam Aralia this morning left three individuals seriously injured, sparking tension in the area. The incident took place around 7 AM, stemmed from a dispute over rainwater drainage and has led to cases being filed at both Bishalgarh Police Station and Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station.

According to eyewitness accounts, the conflict began when rainwater from the house of Sohel Alam flowed rapidly into the property of his neighbor, Hannan Hossain. In an attempt to prevent further flooding, Hannan’s mother, Peyara Begum, constructed a makeshift dam to block the water. This action reportedly provoked Sohel Alam and his family members—Didar Hossain, Maynal Mia, Mina Begum, and Aryan Hossain—who allegedly attacked Peyara Begum with sticks.

“My mother was just trying to protect our home from the water. But they came at her with sticks, and when my father and I tried to intervene, they attacked us too,” said Hannan Hossain, recounting the ordeal.

The clash escalated leaving Peyara Begum, her husband Tahed Mia and their son Hannan Hossain injured. All three were rushed to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. The situation took a darker turn when, during the altercation, Peyara Begum was reportedly assaulted further—her gold chain was snatched, and her clothes were torn, leaving her humiliated.

“This kind of violence is unacceptable. It has created a lot of tension in our locality,” said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous.

In response to the incident, Peyara Begum filed a complaint at Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station alleging physical assault and theft. Meanwhile, Hannan Hossain lodged a separate complaint at Bishalgarh Police Station against the accused individuals.

The police have confirmed that investigations are underway. “We are taking this matter very seriously and will ensure justice is served,” said a spokesperson for Bishalgarh Police Station.
