Agartala: November 04. Leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar today launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and claimed that silence maintained by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha who is also holding the charge of home portfolio on the recent law and order situations is a sign of his weakness.
He said, “A minister is being put forward to confront the media persons whenever the ruling party draws public anger. He tries his best to refute the allegations but the facts remain facts. The truth can’t be changed and BJP’s anti-people policies have only isolated them from the public”.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s state headquarters Sarkar along with his party colleagues of the state assembly vehemently condemned the recent incidents of political violence, police action on the protesting job seekers and alleged rise in crime against women.
“In the intervening period of October 19 to 31, a series of incidents have been reported from different corners of the state where modesty of the women had been outraged. Over six to seven incidents have taken place in row and people have taken to the streets against these incidents. In the Kamalpur incident, the prime accused is a BJP Deputy Chief of the local Panchayat. While the police had arrested some people in connection with the case but the main accused is still roaming free. We are concerned about the state of law and order situation in the state”, claimed Sarkar.
The former Chief Minister also expressed his concerns over the police action on people trying to raise their concerns.
“The ruling party has figured out that the only way to retain power is violence. Yesterday’s violence that razed a party office of the Congress party is highly condemnable. We are against such fascist rule. Don’t the opposition parties have the right to do politics? They are also entitled to the right of setting up political parties. It is a matter of shame that the ruling party wants to establish one party rule in the state depriving other political outfits from exercising their political rights”, he added.
