Agartala, 8th May 2025:  In a dramatic turn of events, police arrested an absconding accused in an NDPS case while he was attending a wedding feast in Chikanchhara Village yesterday late night.

The accused, Nasir Uddin, had been evading arrest ever since a raid on April 24 led to the recovery of a drum full of dried marijuana from his residence in Bailamura area. Acting on confidential information, a team from Bishramganj Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Subimal Debnath, conducted a swift operation and nabbed Nasir from a neighbouring house where a wedding was underway.

According to police, Nasir Uddin had recently returned from abroad and allegedly got involved in the illegal marijuana trade. His father, Sultan Mia, a mechanic who repairs bikes and scooties door-to-door, owns the house that was raided. It was during this earlier raid that the narcotics were recovered, prompting the registration of a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against Nasir Uddin.

Despite being on the run for nearly two weeks, Nasir reportedly could not resist attending the local wedding feast — a move that ultimately led to his capture. Following his arrest, he was produced before the Bishalgarh court on Wednesday afternoon.

OC Subimal Debnath confirmed the arrest and said further investigation is underway.
