Agartala, November 14, 2022: Pradesh Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Monday lashed out at the BJP-led government for misguiding the common masses on the issue of social pension as the assembly election is approaching.
Speaking to reporters here at Congress Bhavan on Monday afternoon, Roy Barman said the Social Welfare and Social Education department has issued a notification on November 04 last harassing the beneficiaries would be eligible for social pension if they can submit age proof, birth certificate, madhyamik admit card and PRTC.
“Previously, beneficiaries’ names were enrolled for social pension based on Ration and Aadhar cards. The new notification from the SW&SE department will not be beneficial as because the people of sexagenarian, septuagenarian and octogenarian and above will not be able to issue all these certificates. Hence, the ruling party has adopted this strategy to complete election and harass the actual beneficiaries”, he alleged.
Apart from this, Roy Barman said that the common people want to know about the expenses incurred and income or donations received during COVID pandemic in Tripura. “In this regard, we demand the BJP-led government to unveil the transparency of the present administration by initiating a social audit on the activities done by the government during COVID pandemic period across the state”, he said.
“A good number of temporary healthcare institutions were opened throughout the state, various machineries and equipment were purchased, many common people, organizations contributed in Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and even the central government has released funds, but has there been any audit!”, he added.
Congress MLA also asked the government what is the progress of dam which was announced to be constructed about 3.5 years back during the former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb’s regime.
Roy Barman, who is the former Health minister also castigated the state government for not organizing any state-level programme on the auspicious occasion of ‘Children’s Day’ and commemorate the contribution of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India.
