Agartala, 18th May 2025: Residents of Rangmala Village in Charilam Block are voicing strong concerns over the deteriorating condition of the bridge in the Purna Sadhupara area. The bridge has been in poor shape for years, has become a significant hazard causing injuries to farmers, pedestrians and school students. Several villagers have suffered accidents while crossing the bridge at night with some even falling through gaps leading to serious injuries.
Despite repeated appeals, locals allege that there has been no government initiative to repair the bridge. As a temporary measure, residents from Purna Sadhupara, Brindavan Para, Shankhmura and Rangmala Schoolmura have been collecting funds to purchase bamboo and reinforce the bridge themselves. However, these makeshift repairs have been insufficient in addressing the growing risks.
The bridge’s condition is reportedly so dire that even small vehicles, bicycles, and motorcycles struggle to cross. Some villagers resort to pushing their bikes with assistance just to make it across. With approximately 700 residents depending on the bridge daily to reach Bishramganj, the urgency for its restoration is undeniable.
Local authorities have been informed multiple times, yet no action has been taken, prompting frustration among the elderly citizens of Rangmala Purna Sadhupara. Speaking to the media personnel this afternoon, they demanded immediate intervention from the administration.
“Can such a dilapidated bridge exist under good governance?” questioned a woman from Purna Sadhupara, highlighting the everyday struggles people face while commuting to the market, school, and workplace. Rangmala village chairman Basanta Debbarma expressed his own discontent, urging the government to take swift action and repair the bridge before public dissatisfaction escalates further.
Sources indicate that the mounting anger among residents could soon turn into open protest against local authorities if urgent steps are not taken to address their grievances.
