BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 18th May 2025:  Amtali police seized a massive consignment of fireworks suspected to be part of an illegal smuggling operation. The incident took place this afternoon during a routine naka checking on the bypass road near Amtali Police Station.

According to police sources, officers intercepted a Bolero pickup bearing registration number TR03L-1538. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities recovered 25 cartoons of firecrackers. The driver was immediately taken into custody and is being interrogated regarding the source and intended destination of the consignment.

Amtali Police Station Sub-Inspector Abhirup Das informed reporters on Sunday evening that the driver failed to produce valid documentation for the goods. Consequently, the fireworks were confiscated, and a case has been registered. Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment was being smuggled to Bangladesh via Bishalgarh.

A police officer estimated the market value of the seized firecrackers at approximately Rs 2 lakh. The incident highlights growing concerns over illegal trade in the region. Authorities are intensifying surveillance and enforcement measures to curb such activities.

Further investigations are underway to trace the network behind the smuggling attempt.
