Agartala, 20th May 2025:  Traffic came to a standstill at Manikbhandar Chowmuhani on National Highway No. 208 today after a lorry carrying stone got stuck in the mud, triggering outrage among local residents. Frustrated by the deteriorating condition of the road, people blocked the highway, causing disruption from three directions.

It is reported that the  National Highway No. 208 has been in a poor state since just six months after its construction. The stretch along Khowai-Kamalpur-Kumarghat Road especially near Manikbhandar Chowmuhani has become dilapidated due to lack of maintenance. The problem reached its peak today when a lorry’s wheel sank into the muddy road, halting movement and adding to the daily struggles of commuters.

Residents, who travel on this route regularly, voiced their frustration over the persistent issues caused by large potholes and uneven surfaces. Many alleged that poor road conditions have led to frequent accidents, posing serious risks to drivers and pedestrians alike. Angered by the negligence in maintenance, locals staged a protest by blocking the highway, demanding immediate action from authorities.

Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control. Efforts were made to pacify the agitated protesters and resume traffic movement. However, locals continue to demand urgent repair work to prevent further inconvenience and accidents.
