Agartala, 22nd May 2025: Dharmanagar’s own Sayan Debnath has once again demonstrated that artistic passion and academic success can go hand in hand. The talented dancer recently secured third place in the fifth-year Kathak dance examination at Bengali Sangeet Parishad University for the 2023-24 academic year.
A student of the renowned Nrityalaya Dance Center in North Tripura, Sayan has been training under the guidance of principal Srivas Dev since childhood. His dedication to both his studies and dance has earned him recognition, culminating in an honor bestowed upon him at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala on May 18. The Bengali Music Council awarded him a bronze medal, cash prize, and certificate for his achievement.
Sayan, who successfully passed the Higher Secondary Examination under the CBSE Board with letter marks in dance, expressed his commitment to continuing in the field. “Dance has never been a distraction from my studies; instead, it has helped me perform better academically,” he shared in an interview. His parents, Seema Nath and Sujan Debnath, along with his guru and the people of Dharmanagar, take immense pride in his success, hoping he will bring further recognition to his hometown.
With growing government emphasis on integrating extracurricular activities, including dance, music, and drama in educational institutions such as PM Shri Schools and Vidya Jyoti Schools, young talents like Sayan are proving that cultural practice is an essential component of holistic education. His journey stands as an inspiring testament to the balance between academics and the arts.
