Agartala, 1st June 2025:  Tripura is grappling with severe flooding triggered by incessant rainfall, prompting large-scale evacuation efforts across the state especially in the West Tripura district. Former Chief Minister and incumbent Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb said he has been in constant touch with the state government to monitor rescue operations and ensure the safety of affected citizens.

“I have spoken to the State Government on every issue, including rescue operations in various parts of the state due to heavy rains and flooding in some places,” MP Deb said on Sunday in a social media post.

According to official reports, 18 rescue teams have been deployed in flood-hit areas of West Tripura. These include 3 teams from SDRF/NDRF, 2 teams from the Assam Rifles, 2 teams from the Municipal Corporation, along with personnel from Fire Services, Scouts and Guides, Civil Volunteers, and NCC cadets.

As of now, more than 1,000 people have been safely evacuated from submerged localities such as Sri Lanka Basti, Baldakhal, Pratapgarh, and Radhanagar under Ward No. 21 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). Furthermore, 1,300 families have taken refuge in 28 government shelter homes, including 24 in the Sadar subdivision and 4 in Jirania.

Deb reassured citizens, saying, “Do not panic in this adverse natural situation and contact the local administration for any assistance. The government is fully prepared to deal with this situation. Keep an eye on the surrounding situation and stay safe.”

District administrations across Tripura have been directed to stay on high alert and initiate relief measures as needed based on local conditions.
