Agartala, 4th June 2025: Sonamura observed World Environment Day with a meaningful initiative promoting greenery and environmental awareness. This afternoon, a special program was organized at the foot of the Netaji statue in Sonamura sub-division. The event was led by the Sonamura sub-divisional committee of the Tripura Working Journalists Association in collaboration with the Sub-Divisional Forest department and Sonamura Nagar Panchayat.
As part of the celebration, 101 different varieties of tree saplings were distributed among the local community, encouraging afforestation efforts. Additionally, several saplings were symbolically planted in Bill Memorial Park, situated opposite the Nagar Panchayat office, reinforcing the message of sustainable environmental practices.
The event was attended by Sonamura SDM Raju Deb, Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Sarada Chakraborty, Executive Officer Prabir Saha and senior journalist Swapan Chakraborty, Tripura Working Journalists Association state committee member and Sepahijala district committee President Debasish Datta, Sonamura subdivision committee President Naresh Das, Secretary Zahirul Islam and Sonamura Press Club Secretary Abhijit Bardhan among others.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of tree planting and environmental conservation, urging the community to contribute to a greener future.
