Special cattle markets draw large crowds ahead of Eid

Agartala, 4th June 2025:  As the Eid festival approaches, special cattle markets have been set up in minority-dominated areas of Tripura to facilitate livestock trade. Among them, the largest market in the state was held at the Sonamura Sporting Association ground, drawing a significant number of buyers and sellers.

While cattle markets have been operational in various locations across sub-division for the past few days, the one at the Sporting Association ground saw particularly high footfall. Buyers expressed satisfaction with the pricing, stating that cattle rates remain under control. They also noted that this year’s trade has been marked by enthusiasm, with transactions continuing as usual. The highest recorded price for cattle at the market stood at Rs 7 lakh.

Meanwhile, Mufti Tayebur Rahman, President of Tripura State Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind issued a special appeal through a press conference, urging all Muslims to celebrate Eid in a spirit of unity and harmony. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the festival remains a joyous occasion for people of all faiths and that no untoward incidents occur during the celebrations.

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha also known as the Eid of Sacrifice, Tripura State Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Tripura State Rabeta Karmi Madrasa Board of Darul Uloom Deoband extended greetings to the people of the state, accompanied by special messages. Their statement highlighted the necessity of respecting communal harmony during the festivities, urging Muslims to be mindful that their religious practices do not inconvenience other communities.

While reaffirming that sacrifice is a religious obligation, the organizations advised against publicizing details of sacrificial animals on social media. Additionally, they called on the government, administration, and followers of all religions to uphold religious freedom, allowing all communities Hindu and Muslim alike to perform their customs and rituals without interference, in accordance with constitutional provisions.
